The boys are in town and the least they can get from Africans in Christchurch is support.
Clad in jerseys that make any Zimbabwean home sick, the 16 strong team and 7 officials have settled at their hotel and had a warm up match against Sri Lanka at St Andrews college.
Number one supporter, Wilson Gore aka Willie, did not disappoint. He ably represented as many fans and was later joined by Phillie of the 'pompa' fan before yours truly arrived and boldly lifted the Zimbabwe flag.
Jet lag was evident at training today (Monday the 11th) but so was great potential. The boys are raring to go and come Friday, they have Canada to deal with at QE11, village green. The match begins at 12.
On Sunday the 17th, all roads lead to Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln where the match against Sri Lanka kicks off before a global television audience.
Zimbabweans are called upon in their numbers to come cheer the boys and boost morale the usual 'Zim way' where music and drums take centre stage.
The Society is still working out an amicable arrangement with the team's management to give the boys a massive Christchurch welcome.
Being there is everything. The boys deserve all the support they can get from all of us. Pick a game and be there and better still do not miss a game. Carry your flags, musical instruments and come in numbers.
Group C pits the hosts, New Zealand against Canada, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
Another warm up match for Zimbabwe is at Lincoln tomorrow (Tuesday 12th January) against Afghanistan.
